The Village of Tequesta - Palm Beach County's Hidden Gem

Tequesta

The Village of Tequesta is a small municipality located in the northmost part of Palm Beach County, Florida, awashed by the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Loxahatchee River on the sunrise and sunset sides, respectively. With a population of just over 6,000 people, it is a tight-knit community that prides itself on its unique character and small-town, actually, small-village charm.

Tequesta’s location on the banks of the Loxahatchee River affords residents with a variety of outdoor activities. Boating, fishing and kayaking are all popular pastimes, and the river is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including manatees and alligators.

Complementing its natural beauty, Tequesta also has a rich history that is worth exploring. The village was originally settled by the Tequesta Native American tribe, who were later displaced by European settlers. In the early 1900s, the town was home to a thriving pineapple industry, which helped to fuel the local economy. Today, the Village of Tequesta is a thriving community that is loved by residents and visitors alike. It has a variety of unique shops and restaurants, from trendy boutiques to cozy coffee shops. There is something for everyone here. Beer lovers can stop by the tasting room in the Tequesta Brewing Company, which serves up craft beers and delicious pub fare.

Another popular attraction is the Lighthouse ArtCenter. This art museum features a wide variety of exhibits and programs, including classes and workshops for aspiring artists. The museum is housed in a historic building that was once used as a schoolhouse.

Families with children often frequent Constitution Park to enjoy its facilities that include two playgrounds separated by age, a treehouse, picnic pavilions, rock climbing area, basketball court, gazebo, fitness stations, and a walking trail. There is a fenced skate park adjacent to Constitution Park, where kids can show off their skills. The park is also home to the Tequesta Veterans Memorial, which pays tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces.

Tequesta Park, that’s technically in Martin County, across the County Line Rd, is a 45-acre outdoor recreation facility with 2 lighted tennis courts, 6 lighted pickleball courts, 2 lighted basketball courts, 1 lighted baseball field, a large picnic pavilion, and a 1-mile walking trail.

Despite its small size, the Village of Tequesta is also home to a number of community events and festivals throughout the year. One of the most popular events is the Tequesta Fest, which takes place every year in November. This festival features live music, food vendors, and a variety of activities for kids and adults.

Overall, Tequesta is a unique and charming oceanside village, and its natural beauty, rich history and thriving community make it a great place to call home or to visit for a day or a weekend. Whether you are interested in outdoor activities, art and culture, or simply enjoying the small-town vibe, the Village of Tequesta has something for everyone.
